Health while travelling
If any members of the family are prone to travel sickness, it’s a good idea to employ preventative measures. Adults should take tablets or chewing gum to avoid sickness, get some insect repellent, and sun cream if it’s a summer trip – even if you’re not going to the beach.
If children tend to suffer from travel sickness, try to make sure they look forward, or if they’re going to look out of the window, make sure it’s always the same one. There are several tricks for settling stomachs: eat a little before setting off (a sandwich without dairy products for example), chew some gum or a sweet to keep the saliva flowing; the child’s doctor could also recommend some patches or tablets to combat the problem.
It’s best for children not to:
- Read or draw,
- Drink fizzy drinks – stick to plain water (in small quantities),
- Consume dairy products, to avoid them making them feel sick,
- Eat large meals
